you’ve gotta read this review to the end to learn the few small detractors I’ll mention. 1. Outstanding Relationship Development – from day 1, conversations were open and transparent. We all knew we’d spend lots of time together throughout the build, so establishing a firm relationship was paramount. It enabled a foundation for some of our not-so-fun financial & responsibility conversations — which never turned into a finger-pointing game. 2. Superior Craftmanship (including all subcontractors). Entire team knew they were working towards a tight timeline, and diligently delivered each service touch with expertise & care. We also formed solid relationships with most of the subcontractors and tradesmen. Really helpful knowing these folks wanted to get it right. 3. Above & Beyond knowledge and access – Tim Murphy does his research & knows this industry: a) Tim provided rapid legal outreach when our future HOA expressed different rulings than written into the covenants, which ultimately worked in our favor. b) Beth & Tim diligently found and incorporated an authentic used- grain-silo into our gazebo design after overcoming several engineering design obstacles erected by PPRBD. c) Tim’s contacts enabled H2O purchase and transport for our Koi Pond at a much reduced price over other local advertisements, and MCHI incorporated our [personally contracted] Koi Pond builders into the overall construction schedule to assure success by all parties, to include cross- coordinating associated Electrical, Plumbing & Landscaping needs. There are so many more positive instances I could relay, but let me just say this: I would hire MCHI over and over again, if I were ever to build another custom home. Now for the few, mild things that “could have been better if…” 1. No guide exists to provide even hints at “what it means to be a Parade Home”. We learned what we’d gotten ourselves into in a day-by-day/peacemeal fashion, and were never really able to set expectations for the expenses, schedules, and extra decision-making necessary for success. We successfully muddled our way through it, but there’s an industry-wide opportunity open for someone to develop an informative guide/brochure/leaflet… 2. MCHI knows the homebuilding process inside & out and thus doesn’t publish/share a baseline schedule; which ultimately resulted in [for us, at least] a few “surprises” on upcoming critical decisions; inability to “see” linkages between critical tasks; and reduced ability to deconflict my calendar versus construction tasks I wanted to personally observe. Here’s the bottom line: While really good at what they do, MCHI should implement a reliable software solution that improves customer insight and transparency across all schedule/financial/performance metrics. It doesn’t have to be perfect [or contractual]…just able to set expectations and surface some of the tougher challenges and risks earlier in the process, with a goal of encouraging conversation. Overall, I treasure the team and the work they do; and I’m super-satisfied with our final product!
